Post #2: Competency-based education and trends

Competency-based education (CBE) is an approach where learners show competency in the level of skills instead of simply following a curriculum calendar. This approach has a flexible pace and students can progress at their own pace, while continuous feedback is provided to students to help them reflect on their learning and work on increasing levels of difficult material. The credentials in CBE can be different from the traditional grading system and can include badges, and certificates which directly relate to the specific competencies. CBE has gained popularity in various education settings offering diverse learning styles, offering in depth understanding and preparing students with skills needed to meet industrial demands of the workforce. CBE is integrating technology at a fast pace to increase use of multiple platforms, online assessments, multimedia tools and analytical tools. The organizations are increasingly accepting micro credentials and badging as certification for specific competency levels. Organizations are developing CBE based learning plans to provide training to employees to meet the skill level needs. Artificial intelligence would play huge role in developing tools to monitor progress in CBE and implement individualized learning plans.
